The lathe of the intellectual revolution.

The Industrial Revolution

Before the Industrial Revolution, nearly every useful act in the physical world began with muscle. Human beings and animals moved the plow, turned the wheel, raised the beam, and carried the load. Productive power was scarce because it was bound to bodies. Strength, land, livestock, and the number of hands a family could command largely determined what it could build and how much it could produce.

The steam engine changed that equation. It turned heat from fuel into steady mechanical power, allowing machines to do work once done by people and animals. It did not merely replace muscle. It decoupled productive power from muscle and made that power available at a new scale.

But power alone did not build the modern world.

Steam needed precision. It needed machines capable of shaping parts accurately, repeatedly, and at scale. Among them, the lathe became known as the mother of machine tools. A lathe could produce the precise shafts, screws, cylinders, and components required by other machines, including other lathes. It helped turn raw power into an industrial system that could reproduce, improve, and extend itself.

The steam engine supplied the power. The lathe made the power useful.

The Intellectual Revolution

We are standing at the beginning of a similar transformation.

GPUs and TPUs are the new steam engines: they supply immense computational power. Neural networks, including large language models, convert that power into something the world has never had in abundance before: the ability to federate vast knowledge and many forms of reasoning into intelligence that anyone can access.

Until now, useful knowledge has been situated in people. It has lived in the minds of a small number of experts, inside particular institutions, in specific places, and during limited hours. Access to knowledge and judgment has therefore been a form of wealth, just as access to land, labor, and machinery was wealth in an earlier age.

Machine intelligence begins to decouple useful intellectual capability from those limits. It does not make human knowledge or judgment obsolete. It makes them possible to amplify, distribute, and apply on a scale that was previously unreachable.

Yet a powerful model is not an industrial system.

We now have the steam engine of this era in GPUs and TPUs. We have its new form of power in neural networks: knowledge, reasoning, and intelligence available at scale. What we are still missing is the lathe, the machinery that turns this power into useful work that can survive failures, operate within boundaries, pause for human judgment, leave an auditable record, and continue across machines and over time.

looprig is the Lathe

looprig is the lathe of the intellectual revolution.

It is the harness that turns model capability into dependable action. It gives agents durable state, controlled tools, human gates, observable execution, and a structure in which work can be repeated, inspected, resumed, and improved.

looprig does not attempt to create the intelligence, and it does not depend on which model, provider, or processor ultimately prevails. It builds the machinery around intelligence. It is the rig that allows raw capability to become a reliable part of the world.

This is the layer that makes the intellectual revolution operational:

  • 01 Durable. Work must survive crashes, restarts, and long pauses.
  • 02 Confined. Intelligence must act only within explicit boundaries enforced by the systems around it.
  • 03 Gated. Human judgment must remain present wherever authority or consequence demands it.
  • 04 Transparent. Every consequential action must be observable, explainable, and auditable.
  • 05 Independent. The rig must outlast individual models, vendors, machines, and deployment environments.

These are not accessories added after an agent becomes capable. They are the precision machinery that makes capability useful.

The mark carries the same idea

The looprig mark is an infinite loop being squeezed into a triangle. The loop is machine intelligence: its knowledge, reasoning, and potential keep expanding, with no fixed shape and no natural stopping point. The triangle is the rig, one of the simplest and strongest structures, giving that unbounded potential a stable frame so it can be directed and used.

The colors carry the same split. Electric lime is the loop: the energy of intelligence in motion, the moment potential becomes action. Light sky blue is the rig: stability, trust, and calm reliability. Where the two meet, active intelligence meets reliable structure and becomes a working system.

The loop still pushes beyond the triangle. This is intentional. Intelligence will continue to grow, and no single system will contain all of its possibilities. The rig must continue to adapt while preserving the structure needed to use that intelligence safely.

An infinite loop is potential. A loop inside a rig becomes useful.

Our Mission

To turn abundant machine intelligence into dependable, governed, and useful work for humanity.

We believe intelligence should not remain concentrated in a few people, companies, or institutions. It should be federated: made available through open, composable systems while remaining accountable to the people and communities it serves.

We believe autonomy is valuable only when it can be trusted. Reliability, confinement, human authority, and operational clarity are therefore foundations, not trade-offs.

We believe the most important systems of this era will not be defined by a single model. They will be defined by how well they harness many forms of intelligence and turn them into work that can safely compound.

The Work Ahead

The Industrial Revolution was not a single invention or a single moment. It was centuries of engines, tools, standards, factories, infrastructure, and hard-won operational knowledge. Together they automated much of the physical world and made possible the machines that now move people, goods, and civilization itself.

The source of power kept evolving through water turbines, internal combustion engines, and electricity. The lathe remained. It adapted to each advancement and kept producing the parts for more capable machines and greater automation. The source of power changed, but the role of the lathe endured.

The intellectual revolution will unfold the same way. Neural networks came first. They have advanced into large language models, multimodal models, and predictive architectures such as JEPA. More capable forms of machine intelligence will follow.

Each advancement will bring a new source of intellectual power. Each will still need machinery that can turn its capability into dependable work. A new automation layer must be built on top of the physical world, one that can reason about machines, coordinate them, operate them, and help people create what comes next.

Our commitment is not to one model or one generation of technology. As the sources of power evolve, looprig will evolve with them.

The engines will change.
We will continue to be the lathe.
